• So much still remains a mystery about the elusive Giant Squid. The largest giant squid ever recorded by scientists was almost 43 feet (13 meters) long, and may have weighed nearly a ton. The reason we don’t get to see much of it is because they live in great depths in the ocean.

  • Elephants are the only animals that cannot jump. It is impossible for them to do so as the bones in the elephants legs are all pointed downwards, leaving them without the spring required to push off the ground.

  • The flea can jump up to 200 times its own height. This is equal to a man jumping the Empire State Building in New York.

  •  There are three main types of killer whales, or ecotypes, in the North Pacific: Resident, Transient, and Offshore. Killer whales are part of the Dolphin family.

  • The bat is the only mammal that can fly. They belong to the Order Chiroptera, which means “winged hand”. Although often mistaken for rodents, they are more closely related to primates.

  • Sea otters hold each other’s paws when they sleep so they don’t drift apart.

  • Horses and cows can sleep standing up, but they dont experience dreams unless they lay down.

  • Even a small amount of alcohol placed on a scorpion will make it go crazy and sting itself to death.

  • The blue whale weighs as much as thirty elephants and is as long as three greyhound buses.

  • A cat has 32 muscles in each ear.

  • Tigers have striped skin as well as their fur.
